We are Jason and Katey Rallis...and we're having a baby!!!
Jason is 25 and Katey is 23. We are a combined 48 years old, which totally qualifies us to raise a kid, right?
We met in elementary school, tormented each other through junior high, became great friends in high school and then lost touch. Don't worry - it wasn't for long. We were reunited in college and have been connected at the hip ever since. Cute, right?
The long version goes a little something like this:
Our families had ties long before we knew each other.
Connection #1: Katey's grandmother and Jason's mother worked together.
Connection #2: Jason's sister was Katey's swimming instructor.
Connection #3: Katey took music lessons from Jason's grandfather.
Connection #4: Katey's brother and Jason were in the same Boy Scout crew.

If you haven't figured it out by now, we are from a small town. There's about 10 people in this town...okay, 10,000 but that's still super small compared to oh, anywhere else.
So back to our love story...
We met on the bus in elementary school and we both shared a love for music (Jason's grandfather was once the band director at our high school. Following Grandpa, Jason's father taught the band at high school and as history repeats itself, Jason spent five years after high school as the instructor of the percussion ensemble). As we grew older, so did our common interests. We both loved (and still do) the color pink, both are convinced that we are fish in disguise of humans, both love the Lord, both have crazy big families, and the list goes on.
Jason was a bully in junior high, but he grew out of it and earned back Katey's friendship by the time high school rolled around. We dated each others' close friends, spent lots of time eating out together and because we both drummed on the high school drum line, we nearly spent every waking moment together.
We didn't mind...most days.
Jason graduated a year earlier than Katey, which made keeping in touch rather difficult. Reunited in college, we wasted little time and within a few months, we entered into a courtship. We were engaged five years after starting our relationship and married on October 18, 2009.We bought our first home in 2010, got our first "baby" - our Border Collie, Parker - and settled into life as we know it.
We knew years ago that as a result of health issues, Katey would have a difficult time conceiving but sure enough, we got pregnant. Unfortunately, our happy ending doesn't really end there. After two lost pregnancies, we nearly gave up on having a biological family but God had other plans. On Good Friday of 2010, we found out that we are pregnant! Everything is going wonderfully, baby and momma are both healthy and now in our second trimester, we are ready to rock this new parenthood thing!
Babies love loud music, right???
Owning our first home in the very town that we grew up in is great! Raising a child here will be even better! Great people, great schools, great family and friends...just great, great, great! A few other great things are this great big project that came with a mortgage and the great big responsibility that is hanging out in Katey's womb but will soon be here to produce great big poopy diapers and great big nights of little sleep.

So laugh along with us while we navigate our way through this new world, creating homemade goodies and sharing our DIY projects along the way.
And we promise, we do have "real" jobs. (You mean this blog doesn't count??)
Jason is the Director of Technology at our church, drums for the praise team and runs a small computer business during his "off" hours. Katey has a small daycare in our home, sells handmade soaps online and in a little shop in town, and is an event and wedding planner/coordinator during her "off" hours.
How on earth did we have the time to make a baby???
We are both big goofballs who love life and love loving love love love...we just love a lot! Lots of what we love will end up here, on this blog. Stay tuned for baby updates, nursery reveals, oh-so-cute pictures of other people's kids and homes and dogs and things...and of course, when December rolls around, we will be adding a whole new member to this home, this town and yes, even this blog. It's gonna be GREAT!
